There’s something about a weekend that resets more than just your schedule — it resets your perspective.
Since my last post on Shift Spark, I’ve leaned fully into the things that make me feel alive: good people, the outdoors, and a bit of movement (okay… quite a lot of movement).
This past weekend was spent at one of my favourite places in the world — the Nürburgring. Not for chasing lap times, but for something arguably better: camping, spending time with family and friends, and soaking in the atmosphere of a place that just hums with energy. Now, full transparency… Friday night may have included a few too many beers around the campfire. But that’s part of it too, isn’t it? The laughter, the stories, the slightly foggy start the next morning — all part of shared experiences that stick.
And we didn’t just sit around.
The highlight was a 34km mountain bike ride around the outside of the circuit, taking in a historic three-hour race as we went. It was one of those days where you’re constantly reminded why you started — the mix of effort, scenery, and the buzz of engines in the background. It’s hard to beat.
What I’m starting to realise more and more is this: momentum doesn’t come from extremes, it comes from consistency. Even after a slower day today, we didn’t let it slide. My wife and I got out for a two-hour evening ride through the countryside. No pressure, no targets — just the two of us, exploring the area we’re lucky enough to call home.
Those moments matter just as much as the big ones.
On paper, things are going well. I’ve hit 230% of my monthly MEP target — and it’s only the 20th. But the numbers only tell part of the story. The real win is how it feels. I’m noticing the improvements on the bike — carrying more speed, feeling more comfortable, and starting to find a rhythm.
I still have the self-awareness to know I probably look a bit like Donkey Kong on a bike — but even that’s part of the journey.
Because this isn’t really about perfect form, or perfect stats.
It’s about doing things you care about, with people who matter.
That’s the part that keeps you coming back. That’s the part that builds something sustainable.
Whether it’s a weekend at the Nürburgring, a long ride through the countryside, or just an evening spent outdoors with someone you care about — these are the moments that compound. Not just physically, but mentally too.
If there’s one thing I’m taking from this weekend, it’s this:
Do more of what you enjoy. Do it often. And whenever you can, do it with good people.
The rest tends to take care of itself.
More to come — watch this space.
